Please give us your background, what you did, what you now do, a cool fun fact, etc.
I am a public school educator and have been teaching for 20 years.
My second passion is the arts, where my involvement spans for 35 years.
Reflecting back on my younger self, I really never considered myself a financially savvy person.
Luckily, I was able to go to college on a full scholarship so this gave me an advantage over those who took on massive amounts of student debt.
But temptation can get the best of us. I had the advantage of graduating college debt-free.
However, when I left school I was still attracted to all the shiny consumer goods. I never managed to save a dime early in my working years.
"Right out of school I bought a $30,000 car (big mistake)."
I started my career as a waiter (while teaching public school), sometimes working more than 100 hours per week.
Although the money wasn’t bad, I didn’t have the chance to save my income.
Rather, I used the money I earned from wages and tips to pay off my debt (from my earlier, not-so-smart decisions).
It was that point in my life, where I became very familiar with Dave Ramsey and what he offered to his audiences.
Getting to know this crowd really gave me some serious momentum to reshape my financial life and get my act together.
"When I was 30, my net worth hit $0 but I felt like I turned things around."
I stopped waiting tables on the side and started to flip items.
Flipping may not have been my first career choice, but I wasn’t half bad at this side hustle and earning this extra income freed up money for me to invest.
But my problem was this: I didn’t know how to invest.
I took all the extra money I made from side gigs and started investing in the stock market around 2013.
I was incredibly lucky with my stock picks (bought Tesla) and that was when I became addicted.
"As my account value grew, I wanted to learn how to efficiently manage my money."
That is when I became aware of the FIRE community.
I stumbled across Mr. Money Mustache and the Boglehead Community. Reading their blog articles made me realize the importance of index investing. I’ve never looked back since.
I studied everything about index investing, and my wife and I have subsequently transformed our lives.
Not only did I sell my “fancy” car (Mustang Convertible) to trade it for a Nissan Leaf, but I also started to save with my wife, and soon enough we were living on 30% of our income.
The remaining 70% of our income was invested.
It felt good to see our progress. And seven years later, we became millionaires.
Fun Fact: I used to be an opera singer. When I was a child I studied (and performed) with some of the most legendary names in opera. I have performed in the world’s most prestigious venues and toured the Middle East, Australia, and Europe.
What Sparked your Interest in Becoming a Twitter Influencer and Content Creator?
When I hit one million dollars I thought I was going to experience some exhilarating rush.
Balloons, Lambos, I had it all built up in my mind.
It felt good to hit 7 digits but I sat there wondering what to do next?
"Twitter (and other internet legends) literally changed my life for the better."
Because these internet legends positively impacted my life, I wanted to repay the favor by creating an account that inspired others to take action.
BUT I wanted to be a little different and add my own unique twist.
I think many are turned off by the FIRE (or FI) movement. In my opinion, the FIRE movement is packaged blandly.
So I wanted to give the movement exposure while adding a bit of spice.
That was the point when I combined FIRE with purpose.
"What is the point of accumulating all of this money?"
We all need to ask ourselves this question.
Money without purpose is nothing but a pile of cash. The purpose will give it action and make it meaningful.
What is Content Creation?
Content creation is contributing to digital media.
It’s the future.
The digital age is upon us and I believe it is in its infancy.
"If you are thinking of starting a brand DO IT NOW. It is still early."
I also feel there is a rejection of mass media.
Mass media is the same rehashed boring information.
Internet content creators can be specific. They are at an advantage.
I released my book and course because I know that people will begin to see that there is an opportunity for us all to become creators.
Fun Fact: My Twitter business is the most fun side hustle I have ever had. The most lucrative too.
The internet can be a means to start an online business. It can replace your 9-5 or can become a side hustle.
What are the Ultimate Tips you would give to someone New to Twitter?
1) Start consuming the best content.
2) Begin following the best creators.
3) Pick mentor accounts.
"By picking mentor accounts, I mean finding the best 6 accounts with over 10,000 followers. Follow those accounts and learn from them."
What do they write about? What are their approaches?
You can also do this with bloggers.
Ask yourself, who do you want to become?
What’s the Secret to Gaining Twitter followers?
Most of all, you need to create great content.
Bad content does not equal follows.
No matter what tricks you try, it won’t matter if your work does not resonate with your audience.
Pro Tip: Genuinely have fun on social media. Your audience will pick up on your vibe. Network and meet people. Writer’s block does not exist when you have fun.
What Steps does a Person Need to Take to Make Money as a Content Creator?
Step #1: Mentor large accounts (consume great information).
Step #2: Create an account with an interesting concept.
Step #3: Build a following.
Step #4: Once you have a LARGE following create a website and an email list.
Step #5: Connect with the audience.
Step #6: Continue to build an audience and create a course or write a book. You can also affiliate market.
How much does it Cost to Start this Side Hustle – Content Creation – and Maintain it?
I spent $500 per year.
$200 is for the website (aestheticsareethics) because I wanted the website to be fancy.
You will also need a PO Box if you create an email list.
That is another $300. But I took the expensive route.
In the long run, it will be worth the effort and money.
You can create a landing page (pretty sure it’s free) and use your home for an address if you want (it’s your call.. All you would need is a domain name. Which costs around $70 to $200 per year).
What do you Love about Content Creation (and being a Twitter Influencer)?
I literally meet some of the coolest people in the world.
This happens every single day.
"And honestly, I love every single day on social media."
That’s probably why I’ve had so much success – if you show a genuine passion for what you are doing, chances are, you’ll be successful no matter the hurdles that are thrown your way.
Are there any Other Tips you have for Someone who wants to become a Twitter Influencer?
Yes, write constantly.
I force myself to write 10 tweets per day and I already have over 1000 tweets written.
"The best artists can create on-demand."
Pro Tip: One suggestion, for maximum efficiency, is to stay as organized as possible. This has helped me stay on top of my tasks and priorities and build epic content.
